Quassia Cup, 1820-1850

Wooden goblet style quassia cup.

Cups like this were made of quassia wood because it makes water in the cup taste bitter. Water would be left in the cup over night to infuse, and the bitter tonic was then drunk to stimulate the appetite and reduce fever.
